Ke'yon Frank (freshman)
My name is Ke’yon Frank. I’m 14 years old, and outside of school I am apart of a traditional ceremony called Ye’ii Bi Cheii. What a Ye'ii Bi Cheii will do is that they deal with patience that don’t follow the do and don’t of the Navajo tradition. When someone does an act against their culture. Usually when they come to the medicine man with there problem it has to do with something that happened in their younger days. Whatever happened to them it has just caught up to them. What takes place during this ceremony is that they dance for 9 days. For the first four days the patient is sweat in a small sweet lodge. In there with him are three different types of medicine men. After the singer, with two assistance, make nine slint hoops entwined with slip cords. After they create the hoops they put them on the meal in the meal basket. Then songs are song in the evening, there are 26 songs sang over the nine days. When the ceremony is over the Ye'ii bi cheii are basically holy for four days. So when Ke’yon does this he won't come to school for 4 days after the ceremony.
